Will He or Won't He?

We are wondering if the Groundhog will see his shadow tomorrow. We made our predictions in class today. 29 of us thought he WON'T see it and 18 of us thought he WOULD see his shadow. Which kids are right? We'll have to wait until tomorrow to find out for sure!

Winter Storm...Early Spring....

Well, it looks like the majority of our kids predicted correctly about the groundhog this year. He did NOT see his shadow. So despite school being closed today andtomorrow due to the "Blizzard of 2011", it looks like Punxsutawney Phil is predicting an early spring! And if you ask me...not a moment too soon! ;-)

Groundhog Guesses....

Today we made our guesses on if we think the groundhog will see his shadow or not tomorrow. The predictions were 11 YES and 29 NO. The fact that we are in the verge of what is said to be the worst blizzard in decades had a huge impact on our guesses! Most of us figured with the bulk of the snow expected tomorrow morning, that little fellow has very little chance of seeing his shadow. It all remains to be seen tomorrow! We'll have to wait until February 3rd to talk about it in class because school has already been cancelled for tomorrow! Hope everyone can stay safe, dry and warm! Enjoy your snow day Kindergarten friends!

Groundhog Day Predictions 2010...

We discussed Groundhog's Day and what it might mean if the Groundhog sees his shadow and what it means if he doesn't. We're all pretty tired of this cold weather and would like nothing more than to see warm weather creeping around the corner. But we all realize it's not up to us!

We are anxious to see the results tomorrow! Take a peek at how our classes predicted tomorrow's outcome! As you can see, more of us think he will NOT see his shadow and we'll have an early spring. Let's hope those friends are right!!

Six More Weeks...

Today we heard that the groundhog saw his shadow. That means we'll have SIX MORE weeks of COLD weather! There are a lot of us that are sad about that. Especially Mrs. Blakely because she doesn't like the snow! When we look at our predictions from Friday, most kids guessed wrong. Maybe more kids guessed wrong because they were wishing for Spring! Well, we will just have to bundle up and bear it!

Groundhog Predictions 2009...

Today we read a book called "Groundhog Day" by Betsy Lewin. In the book, people were waiting to see the groundhog come out of his burrow (hole). When he came out, they picked him up and said "Horray" because he didn't see his shadow. Then somebody took a picture of him and the flash made him see his shadow and he went back into his burrow. We guessed if the groundhog will see his shadow this year. Most kids thought the weather will be cloudy and he would NOT see his shadow on Monday. Take a look at our graph results:

Punxsutawney Phil Says...

Well, looks like we'll have to keep our winter coats, mittens and hats close by for another 6 weeks! Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow and went back in his hole. Groundhog's Day Predictions...

On Thursday we learned a bit about Groundhog's Day. Here are a few pictures of groundhogs in case you don't know what one looks like:

We all predicted whether we thought the groundhog would see his shadow on Saturday. We had to consider the weather we had this week (mostly cloudy) and also take into account that it might be time for the sun to shine again. Here are the results of our predictions in a bar graph. The yellow lines represent the A.M. Class and the blue lines are the predictions of the P.M. Class.
As you can see, more kids think he will not see his shadow tomorrow. Or is it just WISHFUL THINKING? We'll just have to wait and see.
